    Chapter 1

    The Hedge Maze

    Lost in the royal gardens.

The knight wakes among the palace hedges. Somewhere ahead, the old gate still stands open.

A knight moves in an L: two squares one way, one square to the side. It jumps over hedges, but can only land on open grass. Reach the gate in as few moves as you can.

    Chapter 2

    Treasure

    Gems glint in the grove.

Past the hedges lies a grove of fallen gems. The gate won't open for an empty-handed knight.

The gate stays shut until you pick up every gem. Plan a route that sweeps them all.

    Old Bridges

    Bridges older than the kingdom.

The road to the castle crosses ancient bridges. Each cracked stone holds for one step only.

Cracked stones crumble the moment you leave them. You cannot land on the same cracked stone twice.

    Castle Guards

    Dark pieces guard the court.

The courtyard is watched by black pieces. Slip past their lines, or catch them unguarded.

Black pieces guard the castle. Never land on a square they attack. Land on a guard to capture it, unless another guard protects it.

    Chapter 5

    Shapeshifter

    Stones that bend the rules.

Deep in the castle, enchanted stones change how you move. Step on one to slide like a rook or bishop.

Land on a rook stone and your next move is a rook move: any distance in a straight line. A bishop stone gives one diagonal slide. Walls and water stop a slide.

Questions

Is Knight Escape free?

Yes, it is free to download. Boards 1 to 20 of every chapter (100 boards) and the Daily board are free to play. One purchase, the Full game, opens all 500 boards. There is no subscription.

Do I need to know how to play chess?

No. You only need the knight’s move, and the first board teaches it: two squares one way, one to the side. There is no opponent and nothing else to learn.

Is it chess against the computer?

No. It is a single-player maze puzzle: one knight, one board, one gate. Guards in later chapters never move; they only watch their lines.

What is par?

Par is the fewest moves that can solve a board, found by a computer. Reach the gate in par moves for three stars, within two moves of it for two, and any escape earns one.

Are there ads?

No. There are no ads of any kind, and no timers or energy to wait for.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Every board plays without a connection. Purchases and iCloud sync catch up the next time you are online.

Which devices can play?

iPhone and iPad with iOS 18 or later. Your progress syncs between them through iCloud.

Is there an Android version?

Not at the moment. Knight Escape is made for iPhone and iPad.

Which languages does it speak?

English, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Traditional Chinese, Polish and Dutch.

Does the game collect my data?

Almost nothing. There is no account, no ads, no tracking and no analytics tools. Purchases are recorded under a random anonymous ID, so they can be restored. Read the privacy policy.
